Our Client
Our client, Big Change Charity, is one we have supported since its inception of the Strive event brand, which each year sees high-profile participants undertake human-power challenges. Strive is a movement. It’s a movement of people taking action for change. People who want to challenge themselves, connect with a values-aligned network and create a better future for young people by supporting Big Change. Here’s what Sir Richard Branson had to say about the event over on his Blog.
The Challenge
Each year, Strive sees a group of around 30 participants undertake a challenge, under human power. This particular year Strive Lapland took place 170km above the Arctic Circle. February is often described as ‘The Deep Winter’ in Lapland, which meant -30°C temperatures, waist-deep snow, untouched forests, Northern Lights, and sleeping in 200-year-old lumber jack cabins with no electricity or running water. Our specialist consultants were tasked with developing a medical plan to meet the requirements of various stakeholders and ensure that medical and physical therapy could be safely delivered in extreme cold environments.
Our Solution
We developed a medical plan for the event which considered the remoteness of the area, the extreme environment and the high-profile nature of the participants. This included various table-top exercises to test the plan, as well as specialist input in relation to using (and carrying) medical equipment in extremely cold environments.
